Day 35 - lots of rushing about, more sunshine & our first barbecue of 2011

So today was supposed to be a rest day other than a bit of shopping a prep for our barbecue but as frequently happens it wasn't to be ...................

Toby was due to go to Chessington with JLGB but at 7:45 this morning we realised that he'd had no travel instructions. At about this time the leader on the coach phoned to find out where he was!! Too late for the coach so I took him to Chessington - its only an hour away & there was no traffic but even so :)

On my way home got as far as Ruislip & stopped at the new coffee shop (Lilly's) on the roundabout because I discovered that Andy (who used to own the ironing/dry cleaners in Pinner) is now the owner. Had a chat & a free coffee (black & very nice!) - always nice to catch up especially if free coffee is involved.

Then on my way again to Pinner shul to vote for our new rabbi. He was elected with a 94.2% majority - great but so few people voted. Still at least it means we'll have a new rabbi quite soon now. Our gain is Newton Mearns loss & I really hope it doesn't take them too long to replace him (sorry again Janine & Howard xx)

Then popped in to see Polly - her mum is in hospital & she's quite poorly. I'm not sure she knows who to worry about first as her dad isn't all that well either. We had a catch up (more coffee) & I made her laugh with tales of Strictly & Dom's tipsy evening. Also showed the videos I took - sure I'll get into trouble for that when Dom finds out!!

Next it was back to Pinner shul to collect Dom (told you it was hectic), & bring him home - unusually he went to play cricket - seems to have enjoyed it despite not playing much recently he seems to have held his own.

Then off to butcher & Waitrose - ludicrous amounts of money spent as always - why oh why is fresh fruit & veg more expensive than tinned veg & chocolate?????????????
One of life's conundrums never to be resolved I suspect - I know I could shop at ASDA/Tesco/Morrisons to reduce the cost but the overall quality is best from Waitrose I've found. Also I do shop in those supermarkets too (actually not ASDA because I'm not near one) but today was a Waitrose day.

Finally I came home at around 3pm for a 'session' in the garden - phew!!

The more observant reader will notice that there has been no mention of food/drink consumed - that is because there wasn't any!! I had a small amount of water in my 'car bottle' which I drank otherwise nothing - but it was hot & I was busy so wasn't hungry. However once shopping was away & I'd prepared Sunday papers, Pharmaceutical Journal etc for sitting in the garden I suddenly (& not surprisingly) felt hungry - not ravenous - but also very thirsty & drank lots of water - nothing better when it's really hot.
I had a couple of hard-boiled eggs, radishes and a very nice (large) tomato followed by a bowl of fruit (banana, satsuma & blackberries) with nat yoghurt.

Two hours later off I went to Borehamwood to collect Toby & then home again.
Then made potato salad (using Lite mayo - I'm so good!), green salad & tomato salad (tomatoes & fresh basil dressed with balsamic vinegar & a small amount of olive oil).
Around 7.15pm Dom came home closely followed by my in-laws who were coming for barbecue dinner & to bring the item below which they'd had shipped from Santorini.........
Personally I think it's hideous - but Andrew likes it - just not sure where I'm going to put it :)
As always very difficult evening for me - just cannot cope with Andrew's mother - Toby gets very upset with me and I understand why but I just can't :(
Part of me is beginning to dread our week in France as they'll be close by but I'm going to silence that part as we've booked a beautiful hotel and I'm looking forward to it really.

Anyway barbecue was lovely - burgers, sausages & chicken kebabs with salads made earlier. Andrew barbecued (of course) & everything was really well cooked, still juicy & not burnt. Aside from cooking all the burgers & not enough of the other things he did a good job!

Anyway tomorrow is SW day & I'm hoping to go under 19st for the first time in a while but whatever happens I'm going to do my measurements again tomorrow so will let you know how it goes.

Planning to watch Andy Murray tomorrow on TV - no luck getting tickets!

Night. night xxx
Hideous or lovely?? - you decide
