Day 128 - busy day & good choices

Evening all
I know it's late but I've been cooking since I got home from work & now I'm waiting to take honey cakes out of the oven.

I'm still not eating properly but today I had no chocolate (yay!!) & actually no craving for it either which is half the battle.

Really busy at work so between meetings on the drive to Stansted I ate a punnet of strawberries and a punnet of cherries as well as two bottles of water - then I ran (I know it's an interesting addition to my vocabulary) into the conference centre to use the loo when I got there - so covered all bases!!
There was a lunch buffet available but it was mostly sandwiches so I avoided them (I do try not to make the same bad decisions two days running!) & monopolised the fruit. Also had a delicious fruit tea - cranberry & pomegranate :)

Since I got home I nibbled some carrots, had one small boiled gefilte and one small fried - cooks privilege! Loads of water & that's it.
I am very tired but not hungry and I've done all my cooking which means I'll have time to do all my other stuff tomorrow morning.

Won't blog again until after new year so for those that do - Shana Tova & for those that don't - have a lovely few days in the 'promised' sunshine.

Day 127 - put on weight, tried hard not to eat badly and failed spectacularly :(

Hi All
Had shockingly awful food day yesterday so decided to confess all early, get it out of my system and move on!

Got weighed before work yesterday & as anticipated, had put on 2lbs :(
Very disappointed but not surprised & left without staying for class as I had to work yesterday (I'm working today & then off the rest of the week). Filled car up with petrol on my way & bought a salad & smoked salmon to have for lunch from the M&S part - also bought mango slices, strawberries and cherries.

Had lots to do at work & didn't stop to eat until 1:30pm (had water & black coffee to drink in the morning) when I ate the salad & mango.
The trouble started after that when a colleague came to see me & bought donuts - had one but the damage was done. I then polished off two bars of chocolate from the evil vending machine (the rest of the fruit is still in the fridge at work!!).
After work I had to go to a meeting - no preparation and there were sandwiches on the table - I can't tell you how many I had but it was far too many.

This morning I feel vaguely sick & very bloated - I've been to the loo twice already & its only 06:55!!

The morale of this story................I've done worse than this in the past but the thing is I mustn't extend it into today & oh - I've got my appetite back!!!

Have a good day.

Days 125 & 126 - still out of routine :(

Hi all
Phew life seems to be very busy at the moment & accompanying my much less than usual appetite is a lack of routine which means that I'm not only not eating proper meals but I'm buying (& eating) the odd bar of chocolate too. In truth nothing too terrible and no more than two a day - even then I haven't finished the second one but still.................

I've the perfect opportunity this week as I'm working tomorrow & Tuesday, then off Wednesday for 'Yom Tov cooking' (Jewish new year cooking for the uninitiated!) and Thursday & Friday is New Year so I'll be at home (or out - eating!!)

Did a huge shop yesterday - some ingredients for cooking and some for us but I'm just not as organised as usual and it is quite disconcerting.

We went out to friends for dinner last night & had a lovely time but I drank a lot (for me!!) and the dinner was delicious but definitely not SW-friendly.
Started off with Bellinis (Prosecco & peach juice - mmmmmmmm) - avoided the crisps - then we sat down to eat. First course was blinis with smoked salmon & marscapone, and smoked aubergine - had to have one of each it would have been rude not to!
Main course was steamed Sea Bream fillets with boiled potatoes & mange-tout accompanied by a couple of glasses of Beaujolais and lots of water. Interestingly the water had fresh mint leaves and lime chunks in it - made it delicious so I'm going to try that at home.
Dessert was tarte tatin - I had a small piece (no cream) followed by another small piece - which made up a medium size piece  but it was delicious :)
Mint tea to follow and no chocs - so was a bit controlled where I could be :0)

Then today I was on a course this morning & got up quite early but had no breakfast or lunch - came home at 3.30(ish) after lots of son-chauffeuring duties and had a punnet of raspberries and a Chinese flavour Mug Shot - have drunk lots of water but ate nothing else & I'm not really hungry.

Cooking a tongue at the moment so will probably have that for supper with some salad.

Probably going to weigh tomorrow morning & go into work late as I have a meeting after work that starts at 7 and is near the office. Will be glad if I stay the same as I think last week's loss was a bit of a fluke and my eating has been very random so have no idea how I've done.

Anyway - hope you are enjoying the weekend.

Day 124 - Pre-New Year hair cut & colour will always make me feel good

This is a very quick post from my very new laptop - and very nice it is too!!!
Had hair cut & coloured today - picture posted on FB but can't seem to get it on here (I did say it was new!!). just feel so much better - it's a bit shorter & I can see my neck & chin more clearly & the vaguest sense of bone lurking underneath!!

Had good session at gym this morning but had no breakfast before so bought some fruit to eat on way home plus plenty of water (of course).
No lunch but was peckish mid-afternoon whilst in Tesco buying more fruit & made fatal mistake of buying a Twirl. Fatal mistake because I ate it!! Then felt sick & had really bad tummy ache for rest of afternoon which does of course serve me right :(

Tonight had roast chicken, boiled baby new potatoes, mini carrots, mangetout & brussels followed by fresh fruit salad made from melon, pomegranate, strawberries, blueberries & blackberries. It was all delicious but i was careful with my portion size as tummy still a bit sore.

Pledge tomorrow to have breakfast as even if I'm eating less I get sluggish by mid morning if I don't!!

Have a good weekend all.

Day 122 & Day 123 (up to lunchtime!)

Hi there
Sorry not to post yesterday but I had a very (very!!) long meeting & by the time I got home could barely think let alone type.

Still struggling with my appetite - very strange!
Yesterday had black coffee & lots of water but nothing to eat until about 3.30pm when a couple of my colleagues ordered me a smoked salmon salad. It was at that point I realised my 'stress' headache that seemns to have been with me since the burglary, had intensified & I really should eat!
It was a very small salad - really some smoked salmon, three teeny cherry tomatos cut in half and six leavces - but it hit the spot :)
Dinner was a small portion of fish pie and a salad which I couldnt finish - people commented on my lack of dinner which as you may imagine is a very rare thing!
And that was all I ate yesterday.

Today I again couldn't face breakfast but I have cut back on the coffee & drank even more water.
I did however have a small box of M&S cherries late morning & I've just eaten lunch - a M&S wholefood salad (cous cous, roasted veg, broccolli) with smoked salmon & some melon. I'm absolutely stuffed but have a lot to do this afternoon so don't want the headache to intensify again.

I have settled our insurance claim (actually yesterday) and today replacement laptops for Toby & myself as well as cameras for Dom & me have been delivered to my office - so we are on our way to normality at last. However our insurance premium which has to be renewed on Sunday has rocketed & now I've found out that the alarm has to be set at night as well as when we are out!!!! No more late night munching for us :(

Day 121 - appetite still AWOL

My appetite has gone AWOL & I miss it!!
I know I shouldn't complain & if I lose a pound next week I'll be under 18 stone - not been there since the week before Toby's barmitzvah (March 2010). So I do have incentive but even so it is a bit weird.

I went into work a bit late today as had to wait here to show Agnes how to set the alarm & wait for someone to come to sort out the keys for our windows.
Had a black coffee & one HiFi bar for breakfast - only one not the whole box!!

During the day I had lots of water & black coffee. For 'lunch' I had a Spicy Tomato Mug Shot and a yoghurt & that was it until I came home at 8pm.
Just had a small salad with a couple of frankfurters, followed by some blackberries & a mandarin - I'm stuffed :)
Most peculiar....

Tomorrow I have an all day meeting so will take some fruit with me to munch during the day.

Had interesting BBM chat tonight with a very old friend (male) who has just taken the SW plunge. He lost 6lbs in his first week & is (in his words) 'not entirely happy'.
I told him not to be daft but it is a fact that we all have a perception about what we should lose in our first week, how much we should have lost in x weeks etc & if we don't we are disappointed and often go in to 'to hell with it' mode. In turn that can lead to pressing the self-destruct button and we all know where we end up then!!

Part of the benefit of writing this blog for me is the commitment to honesty which is definitely helping to keep me out of the 'sod it' zone - this is my strategy and if you can I recommend you find one too because that way only leads to weight-gain and misery (as well as the secret chocolate stash!!)

With that I bid you goodnight xx

Day 120 - Massive weight loss & I feel good :)

Just back from SW & lo and behold I've lost 4lbs this week - truly fabulous if somewhat amazing!! especially as I normally weigh in the morning & this was 7:30 in the evening.

This means that in the 17 weeks since I started blogging I've lost 20lbs & my BMI has dropped to 33.5 from over 37 at my biggest.
In SW terms i received my stone award this week and (drum roll please........) I won Slimmer of the Week - very chuffed with my little slimmer self :)

I know in my heart that it's such a big loss because I have had far less appetite since the burglary but I'm still going to pat myself on the back because the old me would have undoubtedly eaten her weight in chocolate, bread, butter, cheese & anything else i could consume at speed - maybe I'm re-educating myself; I do hope so :0

As I knew I was weighing tonight I've mostly eaten fruit, celery, water & black coffee today - I wasn't that hungry and it was enough. Just had 4 corn thins with some egg & onion followed by a banana - mostly because I felt I should eat something slightly more substantial but actually I feel stuffed & vaguely uncomfortable now so probably didn't need it really.

So that's it for today - off to bed now as quite pooped. Do feel more relaxed tonight than I have in a while so hopefully will sleep better too.

Night, night xx

Day 118 & most of 119

As you can tell still not entirely back to full focus on blog posting but every couple of days may just be enough for you :0)

However my eating habits are back on track if still a bit erratic so I am really trying not to munch between meals so that I eat at meal times - and I am conscious that tomorrow I'll have to weigh in the evening. If I register a loss that will be a real achievement as I normally weigh in the morning.

Was rushing about a bit yesterday, chauffeuring kids, going to shul, Tesco shopping, washing etc but last night Andrew & I went to cinema. I do miss the 'nosh' - a bottle of water & some grapes just doesn't do it in the same way. Still it'll be worth it in the end - however far away that is.
We saw 'Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy' - it was full of fine acting performances (John Hurt, Gary Oldman) & in truth I could watch Colin Firth all day, but I have to admit I wasn't entirely sure what was going on!! I haven't read the book and I didn't watch the tv series so I was a bit lost in places - either that or I'm just thick!!

Today has been less busy - went to gym this morning and then to collect Toby from his sleepover. Then home for lunch for me & a nap for Toby (don't think much sleeping happened at the sleepover!!)
This afternoon I've had a brief but fruitful veg out in front of the tv catching up on Eastenders - it had to be done :)

Tonight I'm making turkey stir fry & lamb cutlets for dinner with some rice noodles so will have to start getting it ready soon.

Hope your Sunday is going well.

Days 116 & 117 - I need rhythm!!

Sorry all this is a quick flit through the last two days - just can't seem to get back into a rhythm and also without a computer it's difficult to write too much as I make so many mistakes on my iPhone - still I don't want to leave you in the lurch so here goes!!

Yesterday I was at a conference and the food wasn't too bad especially with my still slightly shrunken appetite.
They had plenty of water this time on the tables (although I had taken my own as well just in case).
At lunchtime I had two small smoked salmon sandwiches and a bowl of carrot & coriander soup followed by a bowl of fresh fruit salad & natural yoghurt - weirdly the fruit was completely tasteless. Not sure how they did it nut it was soooo disappointing :0(

For dinner we had breast of lamb, with broccoli and green beans followed by blackberries.
I went to a meeting last night and had to come in after everyone had gone to bed - felt quite weird about it but I was ok.

Today has been really busy - as Fridays always are!!
Dropped boys odd then went to the gym - very hard going at the moment but I burned 368 cals & that has to bs good.
Met a friend here for coffee - just a quickie because her baby was sick - then went to deli to pick up my order a d stock up on smoked salmon.

Then home again to have my nails done - nice colour I think

Not sure why my hands look so yellow!!

Anyway then collected boys, dropped Dom in Pinner & Toby & I went to see Rob & Polly - had a good catch up :)

Dinner tonight was roast chicken, sugar snap peas, brussels and jacket potato. Followed by blackberries and cherries. It was nice but considering I hadn't eaten since breakfast I really wasn't very hungry.

Looks like insurance will be replacing everything that was stolen so that's good - just need to check out that what they are offering is equivalent to everything we lost. I foresee a trip to PC World or Currys at the weekend. They are also reimbursing me for everything I had to lay out for this week - doesn't seem to be any quibbling.

The most annoying thing is going to be the massive increase in our insurance from our existing company who we were trying to move away from & now can't cos no-one wants to ensure us!!! It's such a racket and there's nothing we can do - grrrr!!

I'm thinking bad thoughts again so will sign off now - have a good weekend.

Day 115 (yesterday!!)

I'm currently standing on Pinner station waiting for a train (not entirely certain what other reason I could gave for being here - but anyway I'm on train now!!)
Off to a conference about transfer of care - I'm an 'early adopter' for a major project - hope it's interesting :)

Anyway, yesterday was a better day although appetite still strangely lacking. Had Weetabix and milk for breakfast. Made myself a big smoked salmon salad for lunch & took in some cherries, a peach, a couple of yoghurts (M&S count on us - deliciously creamy) and a portion of SW lemon cheesecake.
During the day I ate most of it and drank plenty of black coffee and volvic sf lemon water.

I was quite headachy for most of the day - mixture of stress and clearing my 264 holiday emails I expect!!

Left around 5:45 & traffic was awful so Toby had to walk home & I didn't get in until nearly 7!!

Made fettucine with tomato, tuna & sweetcorn sauce for dinner but just wasn't hungry so the three 'boy's' had extra - not unexpectedly!!

Made some calls, put on washing, put on more washing!, tidied up etc but as everyone else was busy & downstairs tv isn't quite working properly yet decided to go upstairs & read. At this point felt peckish so had a couple of crispbread with home-made salmon pate (sin-free), and a black coffee.
It was more than enough :)

Slept a bit better last might but still feeling not quite myself - but today's another day

Have a good one xx

Day 114 - a better day overall

So today didn't start so well mostly because I had about two hours fairly restless sleep last night & anyone who knows me knows that I really don't function well with so little sleep.

Took boys to school then came back home to deal with new locks, insurance etc but firstly had to come into house on my own - did it but felt very weird :( and I was glad when Agnes (my cleaner) came.

Organised locksmith to come, phoned insurance company & confirmed alarm installation for next Monday - as I had to wait in for locksmith decided to deal with practicalities - ordered power leads for TVs, sorted out user codes for boys & me on Andrew's computer and did a bit of paperwork.
Eventually got into work at 1:30 (on my way in realised I'd have to come home early as I was the only one with keys!!) - was nice to see Karen & Sara but really couldn't get myself in to gear and hope I can focus myself tomorrow as I have loads to do - always the same when you go on holiday. Don't know about you but I spend my last day before holidays clearing my desk only to find it 'refilled' by 'outside forces'!!

You'll also be surprised to know (as I was to realise) that other than a couple of cups of coffe and some water I'd had nothing to eat during the day - it wasn't deliberate I just wasn't hungry.

Anyway on my way home I stopped off in Pinner to have extra keys cut, buy some fruit & collect Dom. Then home - still feel nervy coming in but Dom was with me so not too bad. Put shopping away & munched the last pear from our garden (delicious) & then left to pick up Tobz from school - he had a football match (sadly lost 12-1!!)

When we got home Dom had reassembled the downstairs tv & got it working - sadly we also realised at this point that the thieving scumbags had taken all the remotes too (Amazon will be so happy I'm a customer this week!!)

Made dinner for us all - grilled steak with brussels & broccoli followed by mixed berries & pomegranate seeds with lots of squash. I ate dinner but still not over hungry - expecting appetite will kick back in soon enough :)

I think that's all for now.

Day 113 - good news then very bad news :0(

Today started off well - I lost half a pound this week - & ended very badly as while I was at SW we were burgled :(

The police think I disturbed them when I came home but I didn't see them & I'm not hurt but I feel shitty & desperately want to eat a large bar of chocolate - luckily there's none in the house!!

They stole two laptops (mine & Toby's), Dom's iMac, his PS3, & 2 cameras (mine & Toby's) - if I hadn't come home when I did they'd also have taken our TV & Toby's TV which were on the hall when I walked in.
Ironically I was with the man who'd come to quote for a burglar alarm!! - if it wasn't happening to me it would be funny but I've definitely had a sense of humour bypass today.
Anyway he was great, called the police, and looked after me until they came - he'll get the job!!

The police were here in under ten minutes - six of them plus a very big alsatian.
They were very kind and very thorough and as several people have said thankfully it's only 'stuff' and we are insured but I do have a terrible sense of being invaded.

I'm going to bed now with a hot chocolate (Options) - hopefully everything will look better in the morning.

Hope you've had a better day than me.

Days 110, 111, 112 - habits & routine

Hi all

As you will have realised since leaving for France my newly learned habits of blogging & sensible eating have gone to pot a bit - to put it mildly - but since Friday (today is Sunday) I've been much better.

I went back to Curves on Friday & went again this morning - I've also decided that I'll go on Tuesdays after work so that I go up to three times a week. I told the boys they'll be no lifts home on Tuesdays & dinner will be later (unless they cook themselves!!).

Also from Saturday (yesterday!!) I've gone back to following the SW plan properly. It's really hard work but I am doing ok so far.
I did some cooking (cheese cake & smoked salmon pate) so I have interesting things to nosh other that fruit & yoghurt. Also made a big fruit salad yesterday which is all gone mysteriously!!!

Last night we went to the Barbican to see South Pacific and decided to eat there. Avoiding the fabulous dessert buffet table right by the entrance (I kid you not) I found a huge quinoa-stuffed tomato which I had with salad leaves & dry roasted new potatoes. It wasn't the greatest meal I'd ever had but was filling.
Toby had a strange mix of things that looked yummy & included creamy mash and onion rings!! I was sorely tempted to pinch one but resisted - also he definitely wouldn't have let me have one :0)
By the way - I'd highly recommend South Pacific.

This morning took Dom to Pinner & Toby to hockey practice so was up early. Didn't have breakfast though and MUST get back into that habit ASAP.
Then went to gym then back to collect Toby (hockey training called off as courts were locked at Harefield Academy!!)
Then got dinner ready for tonight - Italian lamb with rice, cauliflower & green beans.

Just had lunch with Toby - he had smoked turkey salad & I had six Finn crispbreads with smoked salmon pate & smoked salmon accompanied by radishes, baby corn & tomatoes. Also had a Chinese Mug-Shot. A bit later I'll have some cheesecake and blackberries (lovely free treat) with a coffee and some squash.

This last week has shown me that I really don't get any 'days off' from my aim to lose more weight (at least four more stone if I'm honest) but I'm feeling optimistic nevertheless.

On Friday when I went to curves they took my monthly measurements & I'd lost another two inches all over plus a drop in body fat & BMI and 2lbs in weight - pretty good considering I've been on holiday.

Yesterday I tried on the skirt from the suit I had for Toby's barmitzvah & it fits!! Also tried on a suit I bought for RH last year that I never wore because it was much to tight - couldn't get jacket over arms or skirt zipped up (very depressing). Skirt fitted beautifully and jacket will be ok for this RH if I'm careful over the next few weeks.
So this is good news for me.

I'm going to aim to resume blogging everyday and go to the gym three times this week.
Tomorrow I start training as SW money lady & I'm not expecting to lose weight (unlikely to have a miracle two weeks running!!)

Have a good Sunday.
Lisa

PS: I'm sitting in the garden as I write although it is getting a bit chilly now :) Thought you'd like to see my beautiful fuchsias.

Days 102 - 109 - Must get back into the swing

Dear All

Have you missed me??
Hope the answer is not hugely (or just a little bit) because I'd feel sad if your life depended on my blog or you didn't care at all. What I mean is missing my ramblings a bit is healthy :0)

I realised today that I'd not blogged since I came home from France on Sunday & although I went to SW on Monday (lost half a pound over the two weeks I didn't go - miraculous!!), I've not really started to diet again - nor have I weighed myself since I got home. This is probably a good thing - all addictions are 'addictions' after all - but it usually means I'm not watching my intake as well as I have been. I also haven't been to the gym since I got back.

I'm really still in holiday mode as I don't go back to work until Tuesday & between the kids going back to school, the boiler conking out, various pipes leaking, the outside freezer being replaced, our mortgage terms to be renegotiated and our house contents insurance renewal necessitating the installation of a burglar alarm - I haven't really had much breathing space to get my bum in to gear (so to speak!!).
However I did shop wisely so there isn't much in the house for me to be naughty on so I'm hoping any damage will be limited.

Now I've written to you I suspect I'll be more motivated to watch what I'm eating and I'll try to get back to daily posts.

But for now I'll leave you with one last lovely piccie from France - because I miss the sunshine.

Love to all
Lisa xxx

This is us just off a very wet ferry from St Tropez with my lovely boys :0)
